From 12 January, the new exhibition "Situations" will be on display in the Omicum Gallery. The author of the works is Imbi Traat, professor emeritus of the University of Tartu Faculty of Science and Technology.
Imbi Traat started painting as a hobby in 2008. She has now been painting for 16 years, starting at the Tartu Folk High School under Aime Asi group. From 2009 and continuing today, she has been under Robert Suvi art studio. In 2010, she briefly painted models and still lifes under the guidance of Heldur Viires at Konrad Mäe studio.
Between 2014 and 2017, Imbi Traat has repeatedly participated in Aapo Puk's painting courses. Under his guideance, she has completed courses in colour and basic painting (pencil), portrait, landscape and sea painting. She mainly created oil paintings, but sometimes also used watercolour and pastel.
I paint all the time. Once a week in Robert Suvi art studio and sometimes at home. I love to paint objects and people with whom I have a personal relationship with, that I have seen and caught my eye. Lately, I have been moving away from representing the natural and instead, I try to generalize what I have seen.
With the studio, Imbi Traat participates in annual painting exhibitions taking place at various public spaces. For example, her works have been shown at the University of Tartu café in 2011, Dorpat Conference Centre in 2012, Vanemuine Small Building in 2013, Lõunakeskus in 2014. Later at Tartu Concert Hall, the "Kissing Students" café, the Estonian Agricultural Museum, the Valga Culture House, the IMCB atrium, Icosagen, the Tartu University Clinic etc.
In 2019 I arranged a solo exhibition at the University of Tartu. In the same year, I participated in an exhibition that took place South of France, in Berre les Alpes. In 2023 I participated in the exhibition "Creativity in a square" at the University of Tartu Art Museum. My works have been selected for the Tartu Art Exhibition three times (2020, 2022 and 2024).
